There are a total of 7 different ranks in Overwatch. The rank you are is determined by your Skill Rating. Below you can see a list of rank alongside with the corresponding skill rating:
There is also "Top 500" but that is not a rank, that is a reward that is handed out at the end of each season. We will talk more about this later.
- Bronze: 1-1499
- Silver: 1500-1999
- Gold: 2000-2499
- Platinum: 2500-2999
- Diamond: 3000-3499
- Master: 3500-3999
- Grandmaster: 4000+

How does the Rank System Work?
The rank system works very similar to many other competitive games like League of Legends or Dota 2. Each player has a match making rating, otherwise known as "Skill Rating." Your Skill Rating determines who you will be teamed up with and who you are fighting against. In most cases, you will be paired with people in a similar bracket as you and play against opponents who are also in a similar bracket.
As your skill rating increases, you will climb the ranks just as the list shown above. For example, once you get to 1500 Skill Rating (SR) you will move into the Silver rank.
